Today, August 03, 2020, GNBS seized several television sets branded LG LED 4 Smart Television (X- Protection pro) from Harish Variety Store, 12 America Street).
This seizure is based on recent inspections conducted which revealed that these television sets fail to comply with labelling and quality requirements outlined in the National Standard GYS 9-7:1998 Specification for the labelling of electrical equipment, fittings, and household electrical appliances.
Despite the seizure, the GNBS believes that there is still a quantity of this non – complying product in the marketplace. Hence, Officers of the Product Compliance Services Department will immediately commence countrywide surveillance inspections to prevent such product from getting to the consumers. The public is advised to desist from purchasing LG LED 4 Smart Television (X- Protection pro).
The GNBS assures Guyanese that we are committed to ensuring items like these are not imported.
How to safeguard yourselves:
- Dealers should not purchase items that are smuggled into the country for resale purposes and should familiarise themselves with the requirement of GYS 9-7:1998 National Standard.
- Consumers should be vigilant and purchase only products with which are adequately labelled and carry recognised certification marks.
