GNBS Places Non-Complying Television Sets On Hold Pending Test Certificate

On, August 03, 2020, Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) placed on hold 600 pieces of television sets branded “GURU SONIC” (Model No. GS34SMT) from Leading Technology, 16-17 Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown.
This seizure is based on an inspection conducted, which revealed that these television sets fail to comply with labelling and quality requirements outlined in the National Standard ”Specification for the labelling of household electrical appliances (GYS 9-7:2005)”
The Dealer of the Non-Complying television sets was strongly advised by the GNBS to take immediate action to obtain a Test Certificate from an Accredited Laboratory, attesting to the quality of the product. The Distributor was also advised to discontinue the sale of the product.
Meanwhile, the public should desist from purchasing the “GURU SONIC” (Model No. GS34SMT) until the GNBS recommends otherwise.
How to safeguard yourselves:
1. Dealers should familiarize themselves with the requirements of GYS 9-7:1998 National Standard to ensure products are in compliance before they are acquired for sale.

2. Consumers should be vigilant and purchase only products, which are adequately labelled and carry recognized certification marks.
